Radiotherapy Working Parties
Working parties form a key part of the ACORRN structure. They comprise individuals from particular disciplines or allied healthcare professions within the radiotherapy research and clinical communities, brought together to form a cohesive group. In the main Working Parties are designed to identify areas of unmet need and/or to address specific research and training needs relating to their area. Working Parties are encouraged to be independent, with support from ACORRN to develop and implement strategic plans. Working Parties give formerly groups a powerful voice to speak to funding bodies and professional or government organisations. Individual members benefit from a shared knowledge base, peer support and an understanding of challenges they face in carrying out radiotherapy research and development
Working Parties also aim to help to support and develop clinical research infrastructure to support radiotherapy research and development, in particular Radiographers and those working in Medical Physics.
The two most established Working Parties are the Research Radiographers and the Image Guided Radiotherapy Expert Evaluation Group (IGRT EEG), which have been highly active. Outputs include:
- The Research Radiographer Starter Pack
- A review paper published in the British Journal of Radiology entitled ‘Gap analysis of role definition and training needs for therapeutic research radiographers in the UK’
- The IGRT Road Map
