ACORRN acknowledge several excellent web based information sites available on Cancer and Cancer treatments.
As we do not wish to duplicate this information and as we would like to work with other organisations we have included a ‘Useful links’ page in this section to direct patients and carers to comprehensive and up to date information web sites and support networks.
ACORRN have defined some common terms used in radiotherapy treatment. This information can be viewed in the bespoke glossary page.
There is also a section on ‘current clinical trials’ and ‘links to journals’ to direct individuals to information easily and quickly.
Currently 50% of cancer patients are treated with radiotherapy at some point in their management.
Over the last ten years radiotherapy has seen one of the most rapid advances in technology and computerisation in any field of medicine. We are also moving closer to being able to optimise patient treatment based on our increased understanding of the genetics and biology of individuals and their tumours, and how these relate to prediction of treatment outcomes.
The result of these advances is that more patients should now be cured of their cancer, with fewer treatment-related side effects.
