A Road Map for Research, Development and Assessment of IGRT during its implementation in the UK

ACORRN Growing Stronger with Over 1000 Members

ACORRN has now reached a membership total of 1000 active members (as of 20th June 2007) with members registering from all continents. ACORRN originally forecasted a maximum of 400 registered members, the membership total demonstrates that a need for this network was necessary in filling an essential support, coordination and networking gap that existed within the community.

The future of ACORRN based on discussions with the NCRI Partners on 31st July 2007

In November 2004 the Academic Clinical Oncology and Radiobiology Research Network (ACORRN) was awarded 3 years funding to help revitalise RT/RB research in the UK. The NCRI partners recognised the importance of establishing such a Network and the Department of Health, Cancer Research UK and the Medical Research Council agreed to provide support. The current funding for ACORRN expires in March 2008. ACORRN met with the NCRI partners on 31st July 2007 to discuss the future direction and funding for ACORRN. The NCRI Board response to the ACORRN Strategy document was also discussed.

Cancer patients are often subjected to unacceptable waiting times for radiotherapy treatment in the UK – highlighting a need for a national network to drive up standards in radiotherapy to improve patient treatment.
